Add an insult to a sustained injury, the case of Ethiopian social ills

Post by DefendTheTruth » 07 Apr 2022, 14:45

የኢትዮጵያ ጉዳይ ምንም ብሰራ መሻሻል አያሳይም።

There is something lacking in our case.

We are told time and time again that the government has invested a big sum of money to alleviate many of the social problems, among others the critical lack of adequate transport in the country, specially in the cities including Addis.

But they can't get it done, why??

To be honest we are tired of being told the same old narrative that the government is doing something, everytime and every year.

We were told the same excuses before years, yet the people are wasting hours of their precious time just waiting for taxi, this is devastating. And we then turn around and claim we can't feed ourselves.

To feed yourself you need to work hard and to work hard you have to manage your time.

This is a vicious cycle.

Ethiopia is a country with biggest potential in Africa, but among the least developing African states. It is endowed with huge potentail and favorable weather, that is why Ethiopia is the 2nd densely populated country. Unfavorable lands are avoided by inhabitants for reasons of health and food supply. The issue is why this huge potentail not translated into wealth and economic development? This is very complex question that begs for complex conceptual model to look into extenal and internal dynamism. Surface level analysis can be:

--- Unstable political and governance structure ( since the last 40 years)
--- Unblanced regional growth and resource allocation, eg. Addis Ababa is the only largest primate city which has almost more than the population of all cities added in the entire country. Huge demography. Addis Ababa is the thrid largest region in Ethiopia next to Amhara provinces and majority Oromo populated provinces.
--- Waste of resources and emphasis that should be investd in economic growth. Politics and political party is the leading occupation in the country. There are more politicians than enterprenurs in the country. The government is the dominant employer and job creator of citizens. That is why all college graduates are either underemployed, unemployed or passive in becoming creative. The number one criteria to qualify government job is being recruit cadre. Breaking this culture is essential to kick of econmic growth.
