The presence of a large number of Ethiopian expatriates in Saudi Arabia is attributed to the diabolical economic policies the IMF and The World Bank had prescribed for TPLF-occupied Ethiopia, forcing millions of young Ethiopian girls and women to work as maids in Gulf countries, making the remittance they send home the largest source of income for the TPLF to pay just the interest on the ballooning external debt incurred as a result of Capital Flight --- the $30 billion dollars that had left the country and held at TPLF's offshore bank accounts. GRAND THEFT!

Fiyameta,
In late 1970s and early 1980s, remittance was the fashionable research topic in graduate economics and political science programs. Now I realize that it was purposely done as a tool of so called development for poor countries. Ever since weyane rise to power Ethiopia has exported human labor more than any other product, probably next to coffee. What Ethiopia had was a lot of poor people not a lot wheat or corn. As the result remittance (a form of welfare economy), Ethiopia has been growing artificially and today practically every consumer good including land and animal had become more expensive than the west. It is truly sad and frightening - just compare our per capita income with the cost a single meal! Similarly, imagine if by some sort of miracle, all remittance were to cease to exist?! We are talking about a collapse of the national economy?!!!
