Addis Ababa University: The Spinal Cord of the Nation

If education decisively influences the progress and dynamics of a given nation, then in the case of Ethiopia more than any other educational institutions Addis Ababa University takes the lion's share.
A nation without educated citizens is like a human body without a blood vessels in it, I think.
All those influenced the course Ethiopia has taken so far in its modern history are for one or the other reason related to this institution.
There are other institutions in the country that have produced top level academicians and influencers but those institutions themselves are in turn influenced by Addis Ababa University.
When I say about influence I don't necessarily mean just positive changes (subjective or objective) but also negative impacts this nation went through.
If I say it is part of the Ethiopian identity I don't think this is an overstatement.
Those who founded Addis Ababa University have left an enduring impact on the spinal cord of the nation.
I came to this idea after listening to the interview FANA conducted with the current president of the Ethiopian Commercial Bank, Ato Abe Sano, which has now became the first in the country to have built the tallest skyscraper in the country and in the nation's capital and he talked about his AAU background.
This is also part of history (tallest skyscraper in the country, AAU, the Bank that is said to have decisively influenced many of the developmental efforts in the country we see today, whose current and most probably many, if not all, of its former presidents are graduates of the university).
