Ethiopia lost the narratives that make it the oldest state in Africa & the ancient pillar of both Islam & Christianity

Today, Tigray Islamic Affairs Supreme Council said it was disconnecting itself from the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council (EIASC).
Last week, Tigray Orthodox Tewahedo Church Partriarchate Office said it was disconnecting itself from the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC).
Both faith-based institutions said their decision was due to complacency of & failure to denounce by EIASC & EOTC of the civil war, which left #Tigray, home to #AlNejashi & #Axum, the holiest places for both faiths, at the receiving end of Ethiopia’s civil war extreme brutalities.
This war is deconstructing the two historicised narratives that make Ethiopia pride itself as one of the ancient pillars of both Islam & Orthodox Christianity, & in more sophisticated ways than few, the oldest state in Africa.
The center is mute, but it can’t claim it didn’t see it coming.
In March last year, in a similar reflection, I said that Ethiopia was going to reel from the consensus of this war. And in November, I expressed my fear on the potential split within the EOTC.
Once again, tragedy!
