News sources in Ethiopia’s Afar region released a leaked letter written by the Tigray government. The letter leak comes amid TDF’s ongoing military operation in the neighboring Afar region. Afar regional government has been accusing Tigray forces of looting public properties since the start of TDF’s attack on Afar last month.
The letter was written by Tigray’s Bureau of Trade, Industry, and Urban Development, and it is addressed to TPLF's "Army 50" that is involved in the invasion of the Afar region.
Afar news sources pointed out that the letter is proof that Tigray fighters are looting people’s properties in the Afar region. The letter orders Tigray forces to loot food commodities like salt, sugar, cooking oil, pasta, macaroni, etc, and other non-food items from the Afar people.
Two transport companies, Guna PLC and Trans Ethiopia PLC, are mentioned in the letter. The Tigray military has been ordered to coordinate with these two companies to transport the looted items to Tigray.
Tigray forces have been accused of looting food and non-food items from neighboring Amhara region last year.
A humanitarian crisis is worsening in the Afar region as a result of the invasion and looting by Tigray's forces. Last month Tigray announced to launch a military operation in Afar region and thousands of people have since been displaced in five woredas of the Afar region due to the invasion.
