I thought the pan-African movement was on the offing before Abiy decided to snatch a moral defeat from the jaw of moral victory. Had Ethiopia closed this straggle on its terms -- within its comfort zone -- that would have been a fule for Pan-Africanism. What Ethiopians have done in 2021 was amazing; The array of forces they were able to coalesce within a short period of time could have been instructive for others to follow. This kind of movement by blacks in the north has not happened maybe since the anti-apartheid movement of the 1980s. Going forward we will see what kind of steps he is going to take --is he going to bend till his back hurts or going to sand on principle look dignified. Is he going to submerge in tribal politics of jawar or lift up the nation to the level of citizenship? All these will determine whether Ethiopia can take the mantle of Pan-Africanism.
