Biden's call followed Feltman's visit

Diplomatic circles quietly hinting that Feltman's report to biden following his recent visit to Adis was infavor of PM Aby. Feltman report clearly details that Aby has upper hand in the conflict and he can successfully enter Tigray at any time he chooses and defeat tplf leaders. Feltman suggested that biden calls aby to.plead with him that he extends amnesty to tplf leaders or let them leave the country safely and let Tigrayans install an interim administration to facilitate humanitarian aid distribution and rebuild war damaged infrastructures.
Abey's decision to release Aboy sebhat and co. was designed to send message to tplf leaders that they will be forgiven as well if they decide to surrender.
Obviously tplf leaders are not happy with Feltman's conclusion and they provoking clashes with ethiopian and eritrean armies to stifle the new American initiative.
It seems tplf will succeed in stifling this initiative and engage in another adventure that will seal its fate!

I think, Abiy getting a call is a big deal but it may not materialize in getting concrete results like reversing AGOA decision unless there is Addis recognition of Mekele. Only Tigray people decide who is in power in Tigray, not Addis. It's foolish to demand Addis picks Mekele leaders (or Bahirdar leaders) in present day Ethiopia where federal government does not have monopoly of power. Regions, unlike Mengie's era or Isayas' Eritrea, have their own forces. This is the reality we live in today. It's what it is.

Yes, Biden also told TDF not enter Afar Amara etc etc. He does not mean TDF has upper hand.

God! Agames have turned higher education institutions into assembly lines.....churning out 'PhD-holders' who cannot construct simple concepts, let alone infrastructures, or new and original ideas......

Anyhow, a society which thinks Western Aid is not only key to its survival, but also it's entitled to receive the handouts because it's the responsibility of the West to keep it alive can't lecture anything to anyone.....

First, it requires one to be human in order to do that. The last time I checked, being bipedal with long tongue and empty brain weren't the criteria to join the human race, but self-sufficiency is...

Let me ask you Eden. Oh, never mind, just forgot for a second that asking presupposes that you can think.....

It is very obvious that the federal army can enter in Tigray if it chooses to do so. The reason behind halting the move at Qobo, as stated by the Feds, is to not give the excuse for TPLF to execute its drama of genocide and invite more actors to the war, be it militarily or diplomatically. However, what is puzzling most of us is, what is the US needing from the Feds in order to see things for what they are. I don't buy the postulation that the US is concerned about TPLF bigwigs or the people who are perpetually dependent on the West for their livelihood  (unless of-course, it benefits to safeguard the personal interest of some in the State department).

The move by the PM if anything, fractures his support base and embolden the terror mongers...unless there are big give and take position shifts that have been promised by both Governments behind the scene. If such is the case, the US will gradually ease its pressure on the PM, and the PM in turn delivers whatever is ordered by the US. This is somehow hinted by the continuous military build up by the TPLF (knowing that the West is no more with them) and the reconciliatory tone the Gov't is trying to display. The next few days will reveal most of the plots. :|

The TPLF terrorist group wasted all of its child soldiers from the age of 11 and up, whom the New York Times had described as "young new recruits," and Feltman felt that his TPLF mercenaries need additional time and more food aid to help Tigray's 8 and 9 year old children reach TPLF's military age of 11 for another push to Addis.

PM Abiy's understanding of the agame's "Monkey See, Monkey Do" mentality is what led him to release the old farts in order to entice the outlaws to drop their guns and surrender in exchange for receiving amnesty. This way, he can save the lives of tens of thousands of Tigray's child soldiers that are being forced to use drugs and die in a war they know nothing about.

Amb. Herman Cohen,

"#Ethiopia, it is time for the TPLF to accept the inevitable. The Abiy government has overwhelming military superiority. To save the Tigrayan people further hardship, the TPLF must cease to exist, and its leadership departs into exile. Exile under amnesty."
