American Men of 1776, Wake up to American Women of 2021

These are the words I uttered to myself when I heard Congresswoman Madeleine Dean speak on TV on December 29, 2021.
She said: "I was there on January sixth. I take it personally for myself but much more importantly, I take it personally for our country and our democracy."
She went on to articulate eloquently about the precious nature of democracy. It was a riveting expression of commitment to listen to and be reminded about the thought processes of America's students of democracy circa 1776. That is at least how it came across to me as I kept listening to her.
She also reminded me of Liz Cheney's Stateswoman-like rise in defense of democracy in 2021.
I am not suggesting here that there aren't American men who have also risen in 2021 and before then in defense of American democracy. Listening to the speeches of the two Congresswomen as they rose in defense of democracy felt appropriate to call on those who borrowed democracy and started to experiment with it in America circa 1776 to have been awakened in 2021 to them and many others.
I can only wonder how vibrant it would have become if the experimentation of those men who borrowed democracy were inclusive from the outset.
