I was going to post this to admire Abiy's commitment to develop his country even when at times of war and destruction, then was shocked by what I heard him saying, he is saying that only 18 countries in the world have own alphabet and only one country in Africa (meaning Ethiopia) has its own alphabet. Those idiotic statements by Eritrean leaders that we are one people is what has reduced us to this. Eritreans have to make it clear to anybody who cares to listen that we are not one people, one country, or one anything. I hope also Isaias has some plans to build high tech libraries in Eritrea so that our children can compete with those of their neighbours.
Never mind, brother, about "one people". It is semantics. As such it doesn't bother me as such. I didn't watch the video, but I trust what you said he said is correct. That is absolutely dead wrong for him to state that. As we all know, the Geez Alphabet's "home" was in the area of what is now, Eritrea and Tigrai. The Eritrean Tigre language is by far the closest to Geez, followed by Tigrigna and Amharic in that order.
I don't know if PM Abey said that without thinking or what, but the sad fact of the matter remains that some Ethiopians have the audacity of claiming everything as Ethiopian, including, but not limited to, the Red Sea. The ጣፍ፡ ሽሮ፡ ጣይታ ወዘተ...is exclusively identified as "Ethiopian". Even the clothes we wear are routinely referred to as "Ethiopian".
Heck, have you noticed how the Ethiopian government hesitates to admit that we had helped Ethiopia beat the crap of the evil Weyanes! And have you heard them defending our participation in that Weyane instigated attempted Coup des Etas when the US, EU, UN keep on demanding the noble Eritrean Army leave Tigrai repeatedly for more than a year? I have not heard the Ethiopian government say that it was
only Ethiopia that could ask, and indeed demand, the Eritrean troops to leave sovereign Ethiopian territories if it so wishes.
But first things first bro. Let Ethiopia finish what it had started, keeping the Weyanes at bay. Then we will express their somewhat nonchalant throwing of words and phrases irresponsibly.
