The Government of Ethiopia implemented a State of Emergency on November 2, reflecting security concerns. The security situation in Ethiopia remains concerning and can deteriorate without warning. The U.S. Embassy urges U.S citizens in Ethiopia to depart using commercially available options. The Embassy is unlikely to be able to assist U.S. citizens in Ethiopia with departure if commercial options become unavailable. Please see information on What the Department of State Can and Can’t Do in a Crisis.

U.S. citizens wishing to depart Ethiopia may avail themselves of commercial flights from Bole International Airport. If you have difficulty securing a flight or need assistance to return to the United States, please contact [email protected] for guidance. The Embassy remains open and able to process U.S. passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad and can also provide repatriation loans for U.S. citizens who cannot afford to purchase a commercial ticket to the United States. U.S. citizens delaying departure because of a non-U.S. citizen minor child, parent of a U.S. citizen minor child, or spouse should contact us.

Please see contact information for airlines operating from Bole International Airport below:
