A government source close to Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok said that Hamdok had received international and regional contacts asking him to abandon the idea of resigning and urging him to continue efforts to form the new government as soon as possible.

The source added that these contacts came from United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Jeffrey Feltman, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, and a senior official in the World Bank.

He added that all these contacts focused on the importance of Hamdok's continuation as prime minister, while pursuing a policy of dialogue between the various parties to find a settlement that would enable the smooth completion of the transitional period.

For its part, the Sudanese Sovereignty Council said that its President Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan received yesterday, Tuesday, a phone call from Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, in which he emphasized the importance of strengthening and developing Sudanese-Saudi relations, and the Kingdom's support for the security and stability of Sudan.

An informed presidential source told Al-Jazeera yesterday that the head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, had not received any official message stating the resignation of Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, and that Al-Burhan was keen on Hamdouk to complete his duties.

Sources close to Hamdok said that he had prepared a draft statement addressed to the Sudanese people, explaining the reasons for his resignation, which are due to the lack of consensus of political forces and their insistence on “zero equations,” according to the source.

The sources added that Hamdok's residence witnessed yesterday, Tuesday, a large number of leaders of political forces flock to hold a meeting with a number of mediators who made a quick round of contacts between the various leaders of political forces, to reach a solution that avoids the country's political crisis.

On November 21, Al-Burhan and Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok signed a political agreement that stipulated the latter's return to his position, the formation of a government of competencies (without party affiliations), the release of political detainees, and the two parties pledged to work together to complete the democratic path.
