Rape was the reason 42.2% of controls and 23.8% cases sought an abortion.

A further 14.2% of controls and 13.3% of cases cited incest as the reason for seeking an abortion.

There are many harmful cultural practices in Ethiopia in general. In Tigray province, the most conspicuous harmful cultural practice is Husbands Cruelty. In Tigray, Males regard women as sub-human and cruelly treat them in many social setting, either in marriage or sexual encounter. To hear this is not a surprise to me.
