Consider this a revolutionary letter to my dearest Ethiopian community and the “black” diaspora writ large. I have been in America for 40 years so I identify as much as “African-American” as I do Ethiopian. Consequently, I’m presenting this letter to all people of melanin. But in reality, I am writing this missive to humanity in general. Given that Ethiopia is where human life started, my concept of the nation that is named in the Bible more than any other nation includes all of God’s children.
Let’s start with the Ethiopian community because that is where my crucible begins and ends. The truth is that I love you too much. This love has come at a great personal cost. As blessed as we are, we eat our young and we let pride get in the way of progress—that’s why Ethiopia is on fire.
