Ethiopia: TPLF fighters execute more than 100 people, say federal authorities
On Monday November 1, Ethiopian authorities said that activists from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Tigray (TPLF) had killed more than 100 residents of the northern town of Kombolcha. According to the charges, young residents of the town of Kombolcha were executed.
Northern Ethiopia has been at the epicenter of violent conflict since November 2020. The country's authorities accuse the TPLF, which dominated Ethiopia's political life for nearly three decades, of attacking a base military and launched an operation in Tigray.
In June of this year, the Tigray rebels regained control of the region's administrative center, the town of Mekele, pushing the Ethiopian government to announce an unconditional and unilateral ceasefire. However, the rebels resumed their offensive and established control over much of southern Tygray.
