Berhanu Nega: National Education Management & The Blockchain Technology

Post by Horus » 10 Oct 2021, 11:10

The Ethiopian national education system consists of about 30 million students, 100s of 1000s of teachers, schools, 100s of millions of courses, and billions of student test scores for every student of every grade k-12, etc. How can you keep track of all of these pieces to manage the education system at every level - family, school, district, and all the way to the national level? The emerging technology that can be applied to this massive management task is the Blockchain Technology.

The Blockchain is what is going replace the Internet. The Internet is information technology. The blockchain is value technology. with the former we connect information, with the later we connect values. For example, using the blockchain ledger, the ministry of education can keep immutable data for every student, every course taken in every class, every score on every test for every class and connect and integrate and aggregate the data at the city, regional or national level. Using the blockchain, a teacher or a parent in Gonder can look at the test scores or achievement levels in a single classroom in a specific course in Dire Dewa classroom.

About a years ago there was a news regarding artificial intelligence and application of blockchain ledger at Ethiopian ministry of education. In my view, this must be the very first priority of Prof. Berhanu in getting a handle on our massive educational problem. The blockchain is not only a database and record keeping tool. Blockchain records can't be altered, they are immutable. No one can cheat on by altering student scores. This systems can keep every class assgnment, test, and student progress grade 1 to grade 12. Every principal can look at the achievement scores any other school in the nation. In effect, it is a quality control tool also.

So, we will be talking about this system in greater depth in the coming months and years. For now those of you familiar with this world changing new technology can start to think about it. Blockchain technology will replace the internet of information with the internet of values. Its application is not limited to cryptocurrency only, it is being applied to every industry.

I hope Prof. Abiy creates an army of experts to build this amazing system that will transform Ethiopian education, just cryptocurrency is in the process of banking and every type of transaction on the globe.

The title of this post is "Berhanu Nega: National Education Management & The Blockchain Technology". But Berhanu Nega has nothing to do with blockchain or any of the post. This is misleading fraud post. You just dropped his name in a post that is 100 million miles away from the content of the post.

So if you want your readers to know about Birhanu Nega, here's one of his political allies appraising Birhanu Nega's contribution in Ethiopian politics.

Horus also has dark side, darker than Daniel Kibret's, so he promotes hate against people.

He uses patriotism and flag of Ethiopia as cover to denegrate, disparage, slander and vilify Ethiopians. If I was Dr. Berhanu Nega, I wouldn't want such supporters. Here is sample of his genocidal remarks against Ethiopian people:

Here is my question to independent minded people. Why did not Abiy Ahmed appoint the right person for the right position for Minster of Defense while he appointed the right person ( Prof. Berhanu Nega) for the right position ( Minster of Education)? The wrong person is appointed for the Minster of Defense where the life of citizens and security of the country is as important as the education of citizens to bring desired positive behavioral changes and acquiring 21 century life skills in the globally competitive market economy. Education is a currency one takes it anywhere. The TPLF-Tigre Minster of Defense most likely takes the country to his Tigre TPLF cage - like he helped TPLF to turn Tigray into stone age, and Meqelle a ghost city. I worry more about the national security of the country but comfortable where the national education heads, but with my concern about education system is still the PP's education policy of the EPRDF legacy system.

Don't you think that Prof. Birhanu Negga should import Ethiopians from the Anglo-Saxon world ( mainly for the right pronunciation of the language ) to teach English at T.T.C of some kind in Ethiopia ? It is sometimes embarrassing to see highly intelligent people with big responsibility struggling with reading or pronouncing some English words. No one demands perfection but something comparable to that of Singapore and Malaysia.

Abe Abraham,
Not only Berhanu, Abiy also needs to import highly qualified diaspora skills until we are able to produce those world class skills at home in very field. We are not only talking about English or other language fluency but hard expertise such as computer hardware and software engineers who are populating Microsoft and other high tech companies. Abiy needs to import highly qualified academics if he wants to raise the quality of higher education in Ethiopia. When we look at holders of masters and Ph. D. degrees in Ethiopia and their mediocre academic & intellectual preparation, it is truly tragic. In one word, we need to totally disrupt the current shameful intellectual decline of Ethiopian education. The question is does the system allow us to do so? I doubt it. There is also cost of hiring world class diaspora scientists, engineers and academics. However, the fact that we are having this discussion is one sign of awakening!

Horus,

You are absolutely right - the existing tribalized education policy will be the single most challenge to Pro. Berhanu. However, the policy and sate of mind of tribalized education is prevalent only among the so-called ethnically charged activist politicians not at the grassroot mass. I hade an opportunity a long time ago to have discussions on this with people in varied settings in some of the ethnic regions. The most ordinary citizens and high school graduates hate was the TPLF's education system, its medium of instruction and its outcome after years of time and psychological investment. During the TPLF's tenure, the qualitative difference between the educated and the uneducated citizens would be statistically in significant - this is based on my intuitive guess. Going to school or not did not make any difference. The fact that the presence of such an unmet need for citizens to get quality education, independent of political philosophy is a favorable ground to transform the education system of the country that not only produce people in high demand and job creating fields but liberate them from shackles of myths of fabricated stories and produce critical thinkers.

Other than the constraints of tribalized education policy, the position of minster of education might be the least politically affected post - if I am correct. In my opinion, this might be an apolitical one. It is more apolitical than the position of Minster of foreign affairs and other post. Good for the professor to keep his principle intact.
