Are you sure weysnne's Ethiopian Airlines/CEO
Tewolde Gebremariam was allowing the shoppment of weapons using Ethiopian Airlines. If it is true the government should fire him for trying to jeopardize Ethiopian airlines. So far he is vehemently denying. Who to believe Alula or Tewolde? Though the document is forged by weysnne insiders, but I take Tewolde's word over Alula's please don't get him fired.

I kind of feel uneasy about AGOA being targeted by activists.
Setting aside the debate over whether AGOA helps or hurts self sufficiency long term, there is real impact on low income families all over Ethiopia if Ethiopia is suspended.
Families around industrial parks would suffer. Domestic investors would relocate to non productive and illegal sectors. Foreign investment would relocate to other countries.
Also Ethiopian Airlines is misused by all past and present governments and that is unfortunate but to target it would retard Ethiopia and Africa and it would take decades to recover especially in this sector.
I don't want to dismiss the activists but I just wish they factor in the long term implications of their activism on the people. Abiy will go tomorrow but these are permanent interests to people and should not be subjected to such level of negative campaign as it's easy to destroy but not so to rebuild.
Again, sorry if this sounds insensitivity on my part but I feel activism should be sophisticated enough to avoid long term damage to Ethiopia.
Ethiopian workers and business class should oppose the war and pressure the government and all others leading and promoting war. This denies Biden the excuse to sanction Ethiopia which hurts people primarily. Learn from my Eritrea on what sanctions bring.

Eden, your argument as a whole is not bad, but not great either. One sentence of yours however catch my attention : Abiy will go tomorrow you wrote. Translation after that everything will be ok. One, Abiy will not go tomorrow. Two, the most important truth Abiy doesn’t own the change. Ethiopians do. Let us say if Abiy drops dead of heart attack tomorrow — my mistake I might multiply your delusion he is relatively young may have a few decades under his belt — the Ethiopian politics will never change. Parliament will appoint another person to take his place, and that person most probably is more aligned to the politics of Abiy than not.
The more you cheat yourself believing it is an infighting between Abiy and TPLF, the more you do disservice to your cause whatever that might be.

Re: ግመል ሰርቆ ማጎንበስ - የኢትዮጵያ አየር መንገድና AGOA
Abiy and regime will go, his replacement will be different. Think of the last three or four transitions. Their time ended. Their replacement leaders and regimes were different. So Abiy and regime will go, his replacement will be different.
The infighting is between those who like the current multi national (or ethnic) federalism and those who dislike it. It's beyond OPDO - ANDM vs. TPLF. There are many people and many groups on either side although your camp denies this.
Just because you feel very strongly against the idea of ethnic based arrangement does not mean Ethiopians are all on the same page. This is you denying to see Ethiopia the way it is. I know you want what is best for Ethiopia but war (and some say genocide) will not take Ethiopia where you want.
They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Your intentions may be good like Alula the activist but your ways take Ethiopia to poverty, instability and injustice. Of course you don't think Alula has good intentions and Alula doesn't think Sam has good intentions but I know you both have good intentions. The problem is you and Alula are doing things that actually hurt Ethiopia because you both assume the other has bad intentions.

Re: ግመል ሰርቆ ማጎንበስ - የኢትዮጵያ አየር መንገድና AGOA
Eden, I am not doing anything that “ actually hurt Ethiopia.” I believe I am doing the opposite. As for my hating ethnic politics, you are right. I am an Addis boy. The Addis boys and girls don’t even contemplate that kind of politics for a second. Take Araya, he is from Tigray, grew up in Addis , and he is the most vocal , honest ethnic politics hater, even when TPLF runs the show.
As for the Abiy government being gone, if I were you, I do not count on it.
Threee years ago the Ethiopian politics pivoted to the other direction. I don’t see it has a return gear.
The more TPLF realizes this glaring fact, the more young Tigreans lives being saved from unnecessarily being cut short.

Why should your life experience be the deciding factor for how Ethiopian society should be organized? Why shouldn't the experience of others be considered? Why you or Addis be the standard? Instead of forcing 100 millions to accept your choice of politics through war, try to do it by promoting your ideas peacefully.Sam Ebalalehu wrote: ↑09 Oct 2021, 13:00I am an Addis boy. By the way, Tsegaye Ararsa is Addis through and through but he thinks multi national federalism is the way to go. So try to convince him.

Re: ግመል ሰርቆ ማጎንበስ - የኢትዮጵያ አየር መንገድና AGOA
I am not saying my life experience is the “ deciding factor.” In fact, I take your own argument and say why a handful of Adwa Tigreans impose their politics on millions of Addis residents. Do not forget the Addis residents might be as equal in numbers as the whole Tigray residents.
The problem with ethnic politics politicians is they assume their politics is shared by millions of Ethiopians. They assume Ethiopians are ethnic obsessed people. That is not true. It was imposed on them by a few college dropouts.
The Oromo masses do not believe the Amharas are their oppressors. In fact, the majority of Oromos have not seen a live Amhara. Ethiopia is an agrarian country. People were born and die at the same place. If you do not see someone alive how come you accuse him of being your oppressor. That is a make believe that has no truth to it, especially after land to the tiller was declared. As for Tsegaye Ararsa there is always an exception. No one seems to hear from him recently though. When Abiy was appointed prime minister he and a few other Oromos gone wild. Ayatollah , Bekele, and Daud they believed were their savior. That didn’t materialize.

Re: ግመል ሰርቆ ማጎንበስ - የኢትዮጵያ አየር መንገድና AGOA
I see your point. You seem to believe TPLF is the only or the most active promoter of ethnic based organization. If that is the case, why is Ethiopia not dismantling this arrangement? TPLF no longer controls Ethiopia so why not take steps to change it and spare Ethiopia the horror? OPDO led PP is in charge so if the stumbling block is just TPLF, and now TPLF is out of Arat Kilo, then why are we even discussing this? Why Abiy doesn't change the ethnic politics? You know, in some countries,
ethnic based organization is banned and considered crime. So why, with TPLF gone, ethnic politics is still here - unless there are Ethiopians who want it? Educate me here because I am dying to know here.

Being born in Addis is not a shield from hate... Tegay is a person with a deep inferiority complex. Whenever he talks about his childhood he talk about how he was victimized for being an Oromo . It is not the experience most children from parents of different nationalities experienced. It doesn't mean children don't tease and bully each sometimes cruely. That isn't something kids even from hom..ogeneous society can scape from. In addition he is the beneficiary of weysnne's apartheid system. He used to train tribal cadres for weysnne ..so much so..that he used to give advice to aboi... abay.jutst pointing out the peculiarity. You picked a bad example.

Yes, Eden, I do not believe the so called EPDRF has ever existed.
Re: ግመል ሰርቆ ማጎንበስ - የኢትዮጵያ አየር መንገድና AGOA
Why? In the past, you may argue they had power but why is their idea being imposed now? Can one clique impose on 100 millions if it doesn't have power any longer?Sam Ebalalehu wrote: ↑09 Oct 2021, 13:52why a handful of Adwa Tigreans impose their politics on millions of Addis residents.

Eden, have patience. Ethiopia is going in the right direction. You just don’t come out and declare tribal politics is dead. You do not need to do that.
You simply just layout policy that transforms Ethiopia to a more United Ethiopia.
In other words slogans are dead, and polices are alive. That is why, I believe, you are confused.

So you seem confused to me. In the land where many ethnic parties and fronts exist, saying only weyane promotes ethnic organization is hard to accept. These organizations existed even weyane showed up, no?
But let the readers decide for themselves.
By the way, I don't promote or oppose those who organize based on national or ethnic background. I just want the two camps to have honest debate instead of war.
Good debate.
