The Government of Tigray is committed to achieving justice for the many victims of brutal transgressions on life and dignity and continues to demand for an independent investigation into genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and state sponsored hate crimes, including breaches on the part of Tigrayan armed forces and aligned militia. We assure the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights of our commitment to facilitating an independent investigation based on the principles of impartiality and objectivity.
For this reason, we staunchly opposed the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission(EHRC), and its commissioners role in the investigation. The commission and its commissioner have engaged in whitewashing atrocities and impeded the investigation, through, for instance; failure to address complaints lodged by their staff members in regards to the conduct and impartiality of investigators, suppression of reports and information, public dismissal of witness testimony including of Eritrean refugees, and routine participation in public relations exercises on behalf of Abiy Ambed's regime.
We note, with disappointment, indications of the EHRC's failure to adhere to the principles of impartiality and objectivity in the framing, content and address of your letter and request this be immediately remedied. We look forward to discussing corrective measures that must be taken to ensure the independence and credibility of the investigation moving forward.
