Eritreans Have Never Wished To Destroy Ethiopia. Even in 1985, the EPLF made its Principled Stand Clear to the TPLF

Eritreans never wished to destroy Ethiopia even when we were fighting a bitter war. We only wanted to be left alone. In 1985, for example, the EPLF made this principled stand clear to the TPLF in a strategic policy statement published in Adulis. The EPLF rejected outright the TPLF's and OLF's stated desire to secede. Eritreans are a principled people and don't bargain their principles for temporary tactical gain. If Eritreans were unprincipled opportunists like Agames, the EPLF would have encouraged the TPLF and OLF to destroy Ethiopia. But we are not like Agames. Principles matter to Eritreans and we are willing to pay heavily for our principles. Contrast that with the Agames, who were happy Ethiopians when they were ruling and looting Ethiopia but want to destroy it now.
While it is true that national oppression has, in the particular conditions of Ethiopia, aroused bitterness and resentment, it has not rendered impossible the establishment of an equal and harmonious relationship among nationalities once oppression has been eliminated. Furthermore, the feelings of resentment and mutual distrust among nationalities will fade in the process of the joint political and armed struggle that is necessary for the establishment of a democratic state that upholds the right of self-determination.
To sum up, once a progressive state is set up in Ethiopia and the system of national domination and oppression gives way to one based on the equal rights of all nationalities, there would be no historical, economic or other factors that would make the demand for secession correct and justifiable from the standpoint of the
interests of the masses. On the other hand, secession is impossible as long as a
repressive regime holds sway in Addis Ababa because Ethiopia's ruling classes will
fight the demand for separation to the very end.

This is propaganda. EPLF refused to work with TPLF for a democratic united Ethiopia. EPLF blocked the relief route which TPLF was using to get aid to Tigray. EPLF declared war on Ethiopia in 1998 and occupied Zelambassa and Bame destroying the towns.
If EPLF wants to unite with Ethiopia, we do not stand on their way. However it should be to protect the interests of all people in Ethiopia and Eritrea. We think Djibouti should also be re-united with Ethiopia

Read the article: It was published in 1985. Just as now, in 1985, the TPLF thugs wanted to use the starvation of poor Tigrayan peasants for their advantage. Just as now, they couldn't care less for the lives of the poor people. Hundreds of thousands of Agames are going to die in 2021 just because the TPLF thugs treat poor Agames as expendable commodity!

It shows that PFDJ cared about Ethiopia before and after. I wish they treat Eritrea the same way. 3 mil dying for a 110 mil is sacrificing the Eritrean youth for mama Ethiopia. That is unheard of. Sovereignty, you say ?

I think the contrast is strikingly clear, now. Eritreans did not do shameful crime on Ethiopians when they were separating. Eritreans never blew up the bridge between people. Their separation was clean and they did it with clean conscience - the only problem in the process was TPLF. TPLF was the unholy entity that affected everything after Eritrean separation. Because of TPLF and other Western countries, in stead of trust and proactiveness the opposite happened for about 27 years. Ethiopians and Eritreans have a lot in common, which is very natural, more important than the artificial boundary. There are a lot of people on the Eritrean side with civil and rational thoughts as there are plenty of them in Ethiopia. It is obvious, TPLF also stole some naïve Eritreans that oppose everything their leader is doing and likewise complain about Ethiopia for everything of their failure or weakness. Past is gone, do not live the past. Ethiopians and Eritreans would not be where we are now if there were no TPLF. The difference between TPLF and EPLF is night and day.

Let me just add, this point. The separation was done in clean conscience because,
1. There was legitimacy for the struggle from the beginning. Sometimes Ethiopians misunderstand us & think that our fight was primarily against them as people, but the truth of who we really fought against can be summarized by the speech the US Sec. of State of that time gave:
As you can see, he called Eritrea: a country. So, it's the US's (the West) unilateral action of wiping us off of the map that we fought against.
2. After a military victory the EPLF avoided the pitfall of declaring Independence immediately, by putting the question to the people in a Referendum.
The weyane thugs, just declared an Independent Republic on paper (their manifesto), called themselves TIGRAY people's liberation front & attempted to separate by stealing land from Ethiopia proper and by attempting to gain access to the sea by regime change in Eritrea. Thankfully, they failed miserably & I hope their final burial will happen, very soon.
