Abiy Ahmed allows TPLF to control parts of Amhara and Afar region not due to lack of military capability. It is to lure TPLF to commit comparable or worse atrocities committed in Tigray by his government. Abiy knows TPLF’s lust for revenge and how they indulge in atrocities that would dwarf his crimes. His sinister move aims to accomplish three objectives: shift attention for the crimes committed since the start of the war from him to TPLF leaders, create permanent enmity between Amharas and Tigrayans, and create a global consensus for a la November 2020 military campaign into Tigray in the spring of 2021.
Abiy unleashed strong military response—including drones and air raids—in the Afar front and significantly reverted TPLF’s gain because he knows that TPLF could block the Addis Djibouti highway—the main route that connects the country to the outside world. His response in Amhara region is the opposite; he allows TPLF to capture more territories and commit crimes. It is mostly local forces that are fighting against TPLF. No drone and air raids in the Amhara front.
Very few people understand the way the brain of this wicked man works. If you can read Amharic, read his book, “Erkab ena Menber”; it helps to understand how he thinks. But his miscalculation could end up his and Ethiopia’s undoing.

Bro, I don't think this is a correct analysis. This mess is the stupidity of abiy Ahmed and the folks surrounding him. Reason below
1) do not forget TPLF is OPDOs enemy. There is a ideological similarities but there is animosity. There is no way Abiy or OPDO would want the TPLF to be of the hook since Jawar and OLF are likely darlings in the TPLF quarter.
2) abiy's Oromo & Sidama generals are mostly there per qoutta basis and loyality similar to how TPLF filled the ranks with Tigrayans. For instance, the idiot Birhanu Jula once told us that "TPLF doesn't exist even at a ganta level". Now we know how they sump him and made him run.
3) there is credibility to Getachew Reda's statement two months ago when he said 'ENDF is decimated beyond repair'. I do believe ENDF is obliterated. Not in the battlefield, but with a clear sellout by some behertegna promos who support Jawar passing crucial info to TPLF. Debretsion clearly stated that on the lack of communication between the ENDF units when an ubrupt decision was made to leave Mekelle. The stupidity of Abiy falls here for allowing western aid workers to roam freely in Tigray allowing TPLF to establish it's communication lines with it's supporters and this rogue elements in the ENDF. In the end, Abiy is a coward idiot who bended multiple times to western pressure for this spies to enter and alter the reality.
4) the Amhara state officials are the.most dumb and idiots on this. These ANDM officials are way dumber than their OPDO counterparts since they bank on Abiy and.worshiping him more than they worshipped Meles. They are shame of the century. General Asaminaw noticed this gap together with tefera mamo and started training Amhara special forces only upto 3 rounds and Ordered by Abiy to stop. They obeyed and we know how they worked with him on the elimination of Asaminaw and incarceration of many Amhara military men. Had Asaminaw continued his effort to train, he would have had at least 10-15 rounds of recruits capable of defending tplf agression. But Amharas are seen threat to Oromuma, it was curt short. The laziness and stupidity of Amhara elites falls right there so they take part on this.
All in all, what is holding now is the Amhara militias and the afar militias. CIA disclosed yesterday that the latest batches of ENDF recruited can only make it to the battle by the end of September. So the responsibility to hold falls on Amhara militia and fano who are ill equiped together with their afar counterparts. Other state militias are also taking part on this such as Somali and Oromo.
