Birtukan Mideksa and Birhanu Nega got duped by Dr. Abiy

Birhanu convinced Birtukan that OPDO would disintegrate Ethiopia unless they continue to stay at the helm and rule the country, and she should sacrifice her reputation to save Ethiopia. And Birhanu made a deal with Abiy to provide political cover for PP, and in return EZEMA would be given some seats in the 6th election. Birhanu was also convinced that he couldn't prevent the disntegration of the country even if his party won majority seats. So he campaigned for PP and against all other oppositions thinking Abiy is a man of his word.
So Birtukan made sure Abiy retains all seats in Oromia by preventing others to compete(mainly the presumptive winner , Jawar's party). She turned a blind eye to all the complains and the brutal suppression of oromo opposition parties by PP cadres. She even allowed an illegal PP party that never called for a general meeting and elect its own leader to stand for election against the very basic law of the election board and the country's constitution. She finally gave the vote counting responsibility to PP cadres.
Birhanu went full gear believing in the deal and campaigned for Abiy and not for EZEMA. Even Andargachew Zige sacrificed his freedom of movememt especially to the US to protect Abiy. He called for a demonstration againest US and burn its flag ( considered a terrorist act similar to what we see in the Arab world). At least Andargachew made something out of it, 30 million Birr, and saved himself from a complete loss.
But Birhanu lost everything: no seats, damaged reputation, and lost source of revenue from diaspora. He only got so much embarrassment that he has been hiding since the election. Birhanu will never trust Abiy again and he will even refuse any position that was promised to him in the deal.
One winner from this debacle is EZEMA party, it silently got rid of Birhanu and that weird two-leaders-party status. Now it's only got one leader like any other normal parties in the world that campaign for itself and not for the opponent.
Never made a deal with the devil, he may not keep his part of the bargain.
