Birtukan was convinced that the way to ensure that democracy will be born in Ethiopia is not neccesarily with this election but in the 7th election provided this election is conducted in a way that would guarantee Birhanu Nega be given enough seats and Abiy continue to govern the country as a PM for another five years. She was also convinced that it would be impossible to unseat Abiy and continue to have integrated Ethiopia as Oromuma is so powerful and would not allow any loss. So, Birtukan, Abiy and Birhanu made a deal to make this election look fair and free and still results in their intended goal. And Abiy promised Birhanu's party would be given the seats by allowing EZEMA to run a campaign unhindered by any obstacles from the ruling party cadres and Birtukan in return would make sure that OPDO will run alone to claim 178 seats. Birhanu kept his promise of not only badmouthing PP for its failures in every part of the governing of the country but also provided cover and support for all its failures. But, guess what, Abiy and PP broke their promises and betrayed Birtukan and Birhanu and the election produced an embarrassment to both Birtukan and Birhanu. Now these two individuals have no clue what to do next as they are politically damaged beyond repair, Birtukan continues to support the election results as doing otherwise will further damage her reputation and credibility for the future endeavors she has plan for herself. Well, Birhanu? He goes into hiding not knowing what he should do next. This election will dry his source of income from diaspora and make him irrelevant in Ethiopian politics. I don't even think he accepts any appointment by Abiy. He will never trust Abiy anymore. Andargache Zige even sacrificed his freedom of movement to the US by calling for demonstration against America and burn America's flag to protect Abiy, thinking Abiy was a man of his words. At least Andargache secured 30 million birr (he is not at a complete loss).
