Horus' Observation of UNSC Meeting on GERD: Winners & Losers

The number 1 winner is Ethiopia.
The number 2 winner is Africa.
The number 1 loser is Egypt.
The number 2 loser in Sudan
The number 3 loser is Arab league

The very first winning goal for Ethiopia was diplomatic protocol. Why? The agenda on hand was the construction of a hydroelectric dam. The substance of the dispute is the amount of water to collect, hold and release - very straight forward technical engineering issue.

Who did Egypt and Sudan send to this technical meeting? Egypt sent an English language proficient minister of foreign minister. Sudan sent a shy lady foreign minister. The wrong level of delegation for a dam construction dispute.

The central crisis in the mind Egypt is not loss of water, but loss of power. Egypt is truly in psychological meltdown to see a calm, collected, confident Ethiopia steady rise as the power house of the region. This is the Egyptian crisis.

Sudan as usual shy, uncertain, unsure of herself ...

Ethiopia, with brilliant unspoken diplomatic protocol move sent a minister of water precisely to deal with a water negotiation. Major, major victory from the get go. The first time in the history of the UN, a water minister appears before the very important UN body whose mission concerns wars and war like global disputes.

What is the effect of bringing GERD to UNSC? It raised the stature of Ethiopia greatly. The GERD is a world famous project. The Egyptian and Sudanese ministers by their own descriptions and stories have raised the power and influence of Ethiopia. It was priceless public relations and Ethiopian logo promotion event.

The second victory goal for Ethiopia was that Sudan and Egypt were literally told to return to AU and negotiate and told clearly that they must stop loose talk about use force etc. Egyptian careless talk about war and use of force exposed for its lack of seriousness and unenforceable empty threat.

The third victory of AU - the world now clearly knows the rising stature and gravitas of Africa. In effect all the 54 African nations with exception those Arab league northerners would proud and elated with what Ethiopia is doing - taking the fight that is initiated by Egypt, Arab League supported by Saudi and the pro Arab colonial west.

The fourth and yet the biggest victory was the rise of Ethiopia's psychological influence and power over the Egyptian and Sudanese elites. All day long the two ministers told the world how much power Ethiopia has over the psyche and existential anxiety of Egyptians and Sudanese.

The GERD, even before its completion and power production, is achieving huge success in elevating Ethiopian regional and global stature. The two minister told the world how strong invictus unconquerable Ethiopians are!

This image of Ethiopia that was painted by Egypt and Sudan flies in the face fake predictions of the west about a failing Ethiopia state. It was amazing that now Ethiopia is portrayed with two opposing narratives - one poor and failing country and another a strong self-confident, self-assured self building strong people.

It was a long boring repetitive waste of time but it has also greatly served Ethiopian global diplomacy.

Add to this the tireless Ethiopian diaspora outside the UN, it was priceless

ETHIOPIA VICTORIOUS! ETHIOPIA INVICTUS !

Yes ... Ethiopia is an antifragile. Antifragile means things that gain from disorder. Antifragile is beyond resilience, it is something that gets better from being attacked and destroyed.

The dispute shouldn't have been brought to the UN Security Council in the first place, because as many of the UNSC members have stated during the meeting, it's an African issue that should have African solutions, but Egypt and its allies felt internationalizing the dispute would help them put more pressure on Ethiopia, yet it has made Ethiopia even more firm and resolute in its determination to filling the dam. There are certain things sovereign nation consider to be non-negotiable, and the dam is one.

It's true that, when the TPLF terrorist regime launched the construction of the dam, the aim was not to generate power electricity, but rather to help Israel use the dam as a threat against Egypt to force it into complying with its demands, which includes Egypt honoring the Camp David Accords to divert the Nile water to Israel through the El Salaam Canal, and to stop Hamas from using Egyptian soil to smuggle weapons into Gaza. For the TPLF terrorist group, the project was a money-making scheme by selling bonds for a dam that was never intended to be completed. But for the Ethiopian people, the dam is a magic ticket out of abject poverty and darkness.
