Politics loses meaning in Donald Trump's America

Just when you say I am not an expert in politics, I have not taken a course in politics, political leaders know better, you hear in the news from some corners what you intuitively imagine is meaningless in politics. Evidently, some in that corner innately believe that what you think is politically meaningless is meaningful to them.

I heard or read somewhere a while back that George S. Patton, a U.S. Army General, called the Nazis SOBs in 1944. I hesitate to continue commenting on the Nazis because I respect many hardworking noble Germans who should not remain ashamed of the actions of the Nazis that occurred about three-quarters of a century ago and lives on memorialized in history. I imagine that if it weren't for Hitler and the folks of his stock in Germany, the hardworking ones could have been welcome about everywhere rolling in their Volkswagens.

When you thought this much is widely understood, news came out of the blue yesterday that Donald Trump reportedly said back in 2018 that Hitler did a lot of good things. Another U.S. General, John Kelly, is reportedly a witness to what Donald Trump said about Hitler. I haven't heard confirmation of either report yet. If confirmed, according to George S. Patton, Donald Trump is a SOB. If John Kelly heard it, did he agree with George S. Patton or Donald Trump? This is a simple question to answer.

Another piece of news that I heard yesterday as meaningless in politics is Trump suing private companies for denying him the privilege to be on their platforms and that they violated his constitutional right. I am not a lawyer. However, I am a taxpayer. I am also from a school of thought that your tax is your bond with your government. If this school of thought is plausible, you broke your bond with your government when you fought to shield your tax from your government when it was requested of you. Herein lies another instance when politics loses meaning in Trump's America.

With a sense of politics losing meaning, you can't help wondering what politics is to begin with. What is its genesis?

If I am not mistaken, the root word for politics, as well as polity, is polite. I have been under the impression that the polite discourse among the polity evolved into politics. I have been also under the impression that evolution generally leads to a better state. If this school of thought is also plausible, you expect that the polity of today would be more polite among one other than those in the past, including in ancient times.

In Donald Trump's America, when Chris Wallace of Fox News asked the former a simple question during a Presidential debate, you can get a glimpse of the amount of hate the former has for the latter in his glance before whistling to Proud Boys to stand back and stand by. I would have imagined both men to be from a close heritage if I hadn't seen a glimpse of that amount of hate.

Surprising, but less surprising, was a question by the Democratic Primary winner for New York City's mayoral race, Eric Adams. He asked of the State's Governor what took him so long to declare a state of emergency on gun violence in their state. I could feel he asked the question in earnest. At the same time, I couldn't help asking if this is not history repeating itself, as well documented in the book: "The Swerve: How the World Became Modern."

The book documents that barbaric culture met polite culture and those with the former willingly preferred to adhere to that of the latter. However, the transition didn't come overnight. It took enlightenment and renaissance in Europe to overcome its medieval anarchy, which can be paralleled with America's gun violence of the 21st century. Perhaps, Martin Bernal's Black Athena book may be helpful in sorting out the root of the renaissance.

So, if he becomes a mayor of New York City, he is bound for swerving NYC in this 21st century.

Compounding politics losing meaning in Donald Trump's America is a statement from the Government of China stating it has never enslaved the people of any country nor does it allow any country to enslave its people. If I heard the news correctly, it is telling the world that it respects people in other countries as much as it expects them to respect its own people. If so, that is a reminder of the genesis of polity and real politicking into eternity.

I say compounding because when you hear meaning in contrast to meaningless, the meaningless gets compounded.

Now, when the intuitive thinking of anyone goes counter to the expertise of trained political leaders in Donald Trump's America, one can't help asking how in the world American politics got from the hands of a few uninformed men in the 18th century into the hands of vagabonds in the 21st century that are evidently clueless about the basics of civility and polity?

Much the same that I don't lump the Germans into Adolf Hitler's Germany, I don't lump the Americans into Donald Trump's America. I am bewildered by only those Americans that innately find meaning in many of Donald Trump's pronouncements. They represent Donald Trump's America.
