The US State Department, sad to say, is run now by ill-informed diplomats. The more the department wants to interfere in Ethiopia’s politics, the more it divides Ethiopians.
To believe that Abiy could just tell the Amharas to leave Welkayet, Humera, and Raya to TPLF and that they will do so is a gross misunderstanding of the current Ethiopian politics.
The we versus them politics that TPLF bred is in its climax. Everybody is in its corner.
That really means is US has no any influence in current Ethiopian politics.
Some people keep suggesting the Ethiopian government decision to declare ceasefire was the result of US pressure. I disagree.
I do believe the US is as confused as we are why it was declared as the time it did.

PM Abiy's and his government's position has always been the same. Amhara region is trying to force ENDF change it's position which is unlikely.

"Changing internal borders of Ethiopia using the war as excuse is wrong" Ethiopian Defense Minister said in agreement with U.S and international community position. If any member of ENDF wants to die fighting against the publicly declared position of ENDF, they are on their own!

Why would an Oromo member of ENDF fight to help Amhara region take land from Tigray region? If they help Amhara region, then they are giving them free rein to take Wellega tomorrow.

Ethiopia recalls dozens of diplomats, closes consulates in various countries

Sources told Addis Standard that 18 staff members of the Ethiopian Embassy in Washington DC were recalled. Another Five staff members of Ethiopia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations were also recalled, reducing the total staff at the mission to Three. Addis Standard also learned through sources close to the matter that Ethiopian Consulates in Los Angeles, Frankfurt and Minnesota will be closed and staff members will be recalled home.
