During the 17 years armed struggle, the TPLF was a rigid Marxist Leninist group that was held together by its ideological and clan discipline. After a few years of the good life in Addis, the ideology was forgotten, and it became a fraternity of a looting mafia. It was thievery that held it together. There was a great deal of free cash and there was therefore little room for cracks to develop. All of the thugs became wealthy kleptocrats. The last three years, they stuck together by scaring and brain-washing Tigrayans. Today, the remnants of the junta are back to square one with no money and no ideology to keep them together. It won't be long now before serious cracks emerge and that is why I predict that the TPLF will splinter into factions who will cannibalize each other.
Just sit tight and enjoy the show as recriminations begin about who did what to cause the debacle.
