DEVELOPING STORY - We have been informed by multiple sources the City of Mekelle is under #siege with a complete military #blockade by the Tigray Defense Forces (TDF). Thousands of #Eritrean and #Ethiopian soldiers, along with their generals, are currently inside the City of #Mekelle and #TDF has declared a no fly zone over the entire State of #Tigray. The Ethiopians/Eritreans are currently flying into the Lalibela Airport some 350 kilometers south of Mekelle. There is, also, no internet connection to the State of Tigray. Eritrean/Ethiopian soldiers and #generals were apparently ordered by TDF to #surrender without any preconditions. As the desperation continues to rise, Ethiopian/Eritrean soldiers are running out of food/water and TDF has asked the United Nations and other donors to help feed thousands of captured soldiers.
Meanwhile, Abiy Ahmed, held an emergency meeting last night with his national security team and he asked major global powers today to mediate a peaceful settlement of the ongoing conflict between Tigray and Ethiopia/Eritrea. We will keep you updated as we obtain the latest information.
