From Demanding Change To Keeping Change: The Case Of Soliana Shemales

This young and articulate scholar used to be one of the stringent critique of the former TPLF-led EPRDF government in Ethiopia and now one of the key figures that is keeping and protecting the changed government of PP.

The former so called Zone 9 Bloggers has proved itself, one more time, that it was lacking a clear and agreed upon objective in its self-acclaimed and dedicated political activism. Else there is no way to explain why the likes of the woman calling herself Reyot Alemu remained still the same critique while Soliana Shimales turned to be the central figure of running the change, both used to be members of the Zone 9 Bloggers.

One remained critique of the change that she was demanding to come, while the other became the central defender of the change, one joined Baldras, the other turned a lamenter of Baldras, to mention an example here.

This can only be explained by a lack of a clearly defined and agreed upon common objective of the entity from the onset, a weakside of itss engagement.

Listen to the imbedded video of the following article of the Committe to Protect Journalists, where Addee Soliana Shimales is addressing the participants of the award ceremony.

Riot Alemu joined the likes of Ermias Legesse and kept lamenting the change, a failure in my view፣ ዉሃ የማይቋጥር ተቋዉሞ, in the words of Aadde Soliana herself.

DDT - What’s your point? Zone 9 bloggers don’t need to follow the same political path. The fact that they ended up in various political spectrums shows that they are indeed free thinkers. And election board is not a political party. I commend Birtukan & Soliyana for accepting that responsibility because you can’t bring in change through opposition only.

የባሰም አለ አሉ ስተርቱ። አንተ ደግሞ ምን የምሉት ይሆን?

Do you even know why people join hands and create an organization to pursue a given goal?

If they don't need to follow the "same political path" then why are they in the same organisation in the first place?

I recommend you to go and visit a school of social/political activism, if there is one.

Yet again you come to a fast conclusion without first checking your facts. Reeyot Alemu was not a member of the zone 9 bloggers. She was already a well known journalist and was serving her 5 years prison sentence when the zone 9 bloggers started blogging.

Zone 9 was fighting for freedom of speech and free press in a country where free press and free media was nonexistent. With the free speech and media freedom we have today, blogging for press freedom doesn’t make much sense. The then bloggers for freedom of speech are actually exercising their rights freely. Mission accomplished!

Btw, one of the zone 9 bloggers, Natnael Feleke, is now a high level Ezema official.

She is a criminal, has facilitated the genocide in Tigray and the killings in Oromia. She will be brought to justice when Abiy Ahmed is removed. Birtukan Medqissa's fate is the same.

Well, you can claim that she (Reyot) had a different political goal to that of Zone 9 Bloggers, I thought they shared the same goal, "freedom of opinion" but your claim of "a well known journalist" is simply out of the blue, in my view. Where did you make your own version of the "fact checking" in this case?

According to a short profile of her on the internet she was born in 1980 and she started as a teacher in 2000, a 20 years old, she was in prsion for about 4 years or so, then major part of her remaining adult life she was in exile like me   , and how on the earth someone of such a profile could be referred to as "well known". Do you have even a profession that someone in it could be called "well known" for it?

This is an insult to the hard-working professionals to the different fields that we pursue as a career.

You have to apologize to the many world class journalists trying to ge the stories to their respective audiences and who deserved to be given that qualification.

She could be an ambitioned "professional" but not well known professional according to the lowest standard of the metrics. Tomorrow you will come back and tell me Ermias Legesse is also a "well known journalist"

Yes, her profile states that she graduated from a university and holds a BSc degree (of an Ethiopian university under the TPLF administration), but sorry to say that still I have seen many of them, specially those who graduated during the study periods of hers, are more likely school beginners.

Someone of her calibre is a school drop out in my view.

Really? In your calculus, TPLF would have remained Maxist to this day, Essayas & the dead frog would have remained buddies until the ever after, Aregawi Berhe would have been stuck with the junta and hide in wukro with TSEGAYE Berhe, Gebru Asrat would be in jail with Sebhat, Hayalom Araya would have been alive, etc. There is nothing cut in stone in politics.
