This is Alex De Waal’s most recent comment, about Ethiopia -
Ethiopia is bringing Africa into disrepute and Africans should be outraged.
One who is knowledgeable about neocolonialism and the imperialist agenda set forth, can see right through this passively oppressive statement.
Wht Alex says essentially is saying is: Africa’s position or lack thereof in the world has been one that fostered extraction, pillaging & depletion of resources for the greater good of global commerce. Therefore, Abiy’s newly found ideals of self-reliance is a hindrance to the status quo.
Why should Africans be labeled as a disgrace if they choose to reclaim their land, resources & right to self govern without western interference? Why must Africans allow their “allies”, to continually capitalize on their resources, manpower and influence? At what point, do we have a say?
It’s unsurprising to see/read Alex make insidious statements, but this perception of a “rules based order” is what the USG preaches to the global south. In order to guarantee safety & “peace”, they must dictate & influence your understanding of democracy & how it applies to you.
