The two pillars and benchmarks of Ethiopian foreign policy

Our national interest is to develop our economy as fast as we can and pull millions out of poverty. For this to happen the following two pillars are the benchmark and the litmus test for our foreign policy:

1. Peaceful coexistence with all our neighbors. Without good and friendly neighbors peace in Ethiopia is unthinkable. Hence we as a nation must reject any kind of warmongering, any kind of trying to grab lands of our neighbors be it al-Fashaga, Badme, Assab, Djibouti or whatever. Every politics in this direction must be rejected from the outset and is against our national interest. The current government must be forced to accept colonial borders with Sudan and end the dispute ASAP. Rejecting colonial borders as our government is doing is unacceptable and irresponsible.

The government and the foreign ministry must do all they can to always have good relations with our neighbors and if there is a problem the government must work hard 24/7 for peaceful coexistence and friendly neighborhood. Sitting idle while our relations with Sudan is deteriorating is absolutely a NO GO!

2. Our relations with the west is very crucial to develop our economy and the private sector. We have to cooperate and closely work with the west to achieve our goal of economic growth that will enable us to pull millions out of poverty. Without the cooperation with the west it will be impossible to achieve economic growth which leads to social unrest and most likely to a state collapse.

The government and the foreign ministry must do all they can to keep a friendly relations with the west and if problems and misunderstandings arise, the government must work hard 24/7 to repair any damage and go back to closer ties with the west.

On these two pillars hangs the future of Ethiopia's foreign relations and a foreign ministry must be tested on how it achieves these two goals. Any government that is heading in destroying these two pillars must be called out and if it doesn't correct its ways then Ethiopians must vote it out or work to remove it. A warmonger government against our neighbors or anti-western government is against our national interest and must be rejected by all means!
