Which type of Voter Verification System they use doesn't really matter, as this is an election between one clan, which is no different from a family staging an election to elect only a member of the family.

This ineffectual and unsuccessful enclave, aka somaliland, has been independent for 30 years, but hasn't achieved anything whatsoever. Reasonable people claim independence, but they've been asking for recognition; to be recognised as a country so they could go begging western countries as a country. But the white man is not stupid. No one wants one more hungry mouth coming to their table.

Good on Somaliland and their peaceful elections. Its a wonderful step forward indeed. After the Djiboutian presidential elecions there was the Somaliland elections. And soon there will be puntland local elections. And Somalia presidential elecions will follow.

Such elections are a complete waste of time and resources as long as the so-called leaders of such geographic countries and regions are continuing to regard the basic needs of their people with so much contempt.

in addition, democracy can only work when certain variables are fully in place. We cannot expect a society to be fully democratic, based on the western model, when the majority of its people are lavishing in poverty and illiteracy. The freedoms and democracy that the West parade around and feed on constitute a mere secondary need in life. No one really needs freedom of speech or democracy to live better but basic needs such as food, housing, health, and education, etc. When a society becomes free from worrying about their basic needs, then it can explore creative philosophies.

Africa is on a survival mode and needs not plastic leaders but true leaders who can transcend western bullshi.t and focus on solving the basic needs of their people, to start with.

Just a thought!

Anyone with slightly brain can see your hidden agenda, you divide Somalis but you always cry and whine about divided Abyssinians.

Somalia & Somalis will outlive Ethiopia & Abyssinians!!

I do agree as a person I don't really believe in democracy because Africans think In ethnic group. So I do agree with Somaliman. But I believe its some how a start to develop a more sustainable political process.

That's why democracy doesn't mean necessarily that the state is progressing. Turkey for example is not a western democracy. But Turkey is making economic progress in all fields in science in medicine in the milltary in technology. For example the patriotic dictator of Eritrea is the kinda dictator that is doing good for his country. Eritrea is very strong country due to his leadership.

Abyssinia lady I support habasha or tigrigna unity solidarity partnership. They really kicked [deleted] when they were united. Today they are weak well the tigrigna Eritreans are still standing but the tigrayans have been destroyed and that's a pity. We the Somalis supported the EPLF and TPLF in the 70s. Even though they backstabbed us. But as long as we put down the chauvanistic amhara. And that was to build a greater Somalia (Somaliweyn) which was and is still a noble cause indeed dear lad.. I stand for greater Somali nation, and one day we shall unite the region. And even convert your afran qallo and karrayu into Somalis. By the year 2050 we will keep on expanding. In the future we will even incooperate the afars and segments of the oromo. We will go beyond the awash River this time.

Please, don't get me wrong, I do not support politics that is based on ethnic/tribal/clan identities at all. On the contrary, I do believe in democracy.

Ethnic politics has proven to have a destructive adverse effects on prospects of promoting good governance, among others. It has resulted in dominant ethnic groups excluding minority groups within national policies that reflect the interests and activities of the national majority. Such marginalisation and exclusiveness has, in turn, resulted in many minority groups being denied their rights of equal access to socio-economic, political and cultural resources, paving the way for what's called a 'security dilemma', where a competition for scarce resources and state power leads to a zero-sum conflict (win-lose) of identities based on ethnicity or tribalism, which leads to separatism and ethnic conflicts - which is what we're witnessing across Africa as we speak.

In addition, the control over the justice system by a particular ethnic elite is often linked to inequalities, social unrest, and violence. Zimbabwe and Rwanda are good examples for this.

What I'm saying, in short, is that elections and democracy are not priorities in Africa. Satisfying the basic needs of the people comes first. Most African countries are simply unable to meet even the most basic needs of their people, and neither democracy nor elections are needed to improve such an appalling situation that's likely to get even worse.

African mendacious plastic leaders are holding elections and indulging in misleading bravado on democracy just to try to fool the West for a few dollars more.
