That being the reality, it is up to us the Horn region people, and governments that must work on strengthening our ጎደቦ (neighborhood) as PIA would say.
Eritrea Prevails! Ethiopia Prevails! Somalia Prevails! United we stand, fragmented we fail to the appeasement of our enemies!

if I do like you and want to have you with me, then please tell me why/how on this earth I should also celebrate your departure from me?
I am not against Eritrea celebration its wished celebration of any kind but just tell me the logic that could possibly dictate the above statement.
Other than that I have nothing to add to your saying "United we stand, fragmented we fail to the appeasement of our enemies", it is well put.

I am always intrigued by the mentality of African in General horn Africans in particular. No wonder why the whites are destroying and rapping Africa. Believe it or not, Eritrea's and Ethiopia destination and their destiny is one and the same. Issaias understands and gets it but i am not sure about us, the Ethiopians. Imagine this, if Ethiopia allowed to use both ports and Eritrea is allowed to use all it needs electric power from Ethiopia, Ethiopia will save the hard currency that pays in billions for port fee while Eritrea saves the hard currency that pays to get electric power. Right there both countries will cut out the middle man and the use of dollars and both win.temari wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 16:22DefendTheTruth, if your girlfriend breaks up with you it may heart your ego/feelings for a while but at some point you must let it go and if possible you two can start good friendship and you may be even invited to her wedding. Her wedding is not about you but about her enjoying her new life and as her good friend you should be also happy for her.
But even if you think the independence day is all about Eritrea's separation from Ethiopia, I don't think the separation was bad for Ethiopia too. We were in a civil war, killing each other for 3 decades and the separation stopped the war. Our economy was eaten up by the war. What was good about being united then if we both were suffering due to the war? Eritrea gained its independence and they are happy and we Ethiopians have our peace and we started to develop after the separation much better than before. So the separation was also the end of a long war for Ethiopia and a start of a peaceful development and as such the separation was a win-win for both of us. I really don't think anyone of us was harmed by the separation. We are both better than before.
As a good boyfriend, at some point we have to let it go and just wish our neighbors all the best. We have to plan our lives without them just like a good boyfriend. I just don't get my head around why Ethiopia can't live happily without Eritrea? We can and Eritrea can also be happy without Ethiopia. We should just be good neighbors and cooperate if possible and if the wounds have healed, then we should even be happy for their independence day which also ended our suffering. Celebrating the end of a bad and miserable relationship is OK.

That is what I called good neighborhood and cooperation and should be encouraged by all means to benefit our peoples. What I'm saying is that we still should not forget that we are two independent separate countries and that is also good for both of us.ZEMEN wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 16:32I am always intrigued by the mentality of African in General horn Africans in particular. Temari; i agree with you. i was just annoyed by defend the truth. Besids, we tried war and hostilities and it didn't work so, we should try peace and mutual respect. From my understanding as long as we respect their borders the Eritreans are the coolest to work with. Above all, they can't be trusted.temari wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 16:35That is what I called good neighborhood and cooperation and should be encouraged by all means to benefit our peoples. Temt,Temt wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 21:05Dear Ethiopian brothers and sisters,
We can argue all we want until the cows come home. But an argument for the sake of argument leads to a bridge to nowhere.
The fact is Eritrea never separated from Ethiopia. Semantics aside, it may be helpful to understand that Eritrea was denied its right to self-determination by the British/US-driven UN resolution when all ex-colonial African countries were given that right. Specifically, out of the 3 ex-Italian colonies, only Eritrea has been negated its political independence while the Italian Somaliland and Libya were accorded their political independence. Eritrea should have been given its political independence like all the ex-colonial African states were. That was the big blunder that the UN did on the behest of the powers of the day,
But some members of the UN were concerned with such a biased decision and protested the union with Ethiopia, which was against the wish of the majority of the Eritrean people. Because of such opposition, a "Federal" arrangement was agreed upon as a compromise for a period of ten years after which the Eritreans were to partake in an UN-sponsored referendum to decide Eritrea's political fate. But, with the blessing of the US, Emperor Haileselasie abrogated that resolution illegally and annexed Eritrea. Then, the rest is history. So you see, my friends, "separation" couldn't happen by the undoing of such an illegal union in the first place. But that is history and would always be told for educational and informational purposes.
That is then and what about now?
In spite of the very painful experience we have suffered under successive Ethiopian regimes, we always understood that, sooner or later, working together as two sisterly countries is the way forward to go for a win-win situation. We patiently have been waiting for such an opportunity. And when an offer to work together for the benefit of our two peoples was made by Ethiopia under the leadership of PM Abey Ahmed, we didn't hesitate to take him on his offer for a similar offer by us was on the table for a long time even during the Derg administration that was always rejected by the Ethiopian side including the Weyanes.
So you see brother, DefendTheTruth, "it takes two to tango" and the music was never intuned enough to consummate the political and economical marriage, not only between Eritrea & Ethiopia, but including that of Somalia, Djibouti, the Sudans, and perhaps beyond
For the Eritrean people, victims of round-the-clock aerial bombardment, what you just callously called "administrative malpractice," was actually a scorched earth campaign intended to exterminate the Eritrean population. "እምቢ ያለ ሰው ጥይት ኣጉርሰው" "ኤርትራ መሬቷ እንጂ ህዝቧ አያስፈልገንም " It was an act of genocide, and ethnic cleansing. Entire villages were burned to the ground with families inside. Villagers were forced out of their homes at gun point and made to lay down on the ground, only to be ran over by tanks, so as to save bullets. Where in Ethiopia have you seen cruelty of such magnitude? No, it was not a case of discrimination. It was an onslaught on defenseless civilians whose only crime was being Eritreans.DefendTheTruth wrote: ↑25 May 2021, 13:14And let's all agree that Eritrea was subjected to administrative malpractices from the then government (of Ethiopia and Eritrea) and hope that is essentially what you are saying. Please correct me if I am wrong and in case there was also specifically targetted social discrimination against the Eritrean people more than against all the other (above the norm for the rest) from the other section of the Ethiopian people.
