The TRUTH about Abiy's telecom sell.
Abiy Ahmed’s deception to the world:
Yesterday, he announced on his Facebook page that a new nationwide telecom license was awarded to the Global Partnership for Ethiopia which offered the highest licensing fee. He continued to say with over $8 billion total investment, this will be the single largest FDI into Ethiopia to date.
Deception 1: Abiy did not dare to mention the price tag of the winner which was found to be $850 million from other sources. He just said over $8 billion total investment. He also never mentioned over how many years will the $8 billion be invested which was later revealed that it will be invested over 10 years period. By mentioning the total investment, Abiy is trying to deceive the public that he sold the license at a price tag of $8 billion. Similarly, by not mentioning the period of investment (which was agreed to be 10 years), Abiy is trying to deceive the public that it will be invested in one year period.
Deception 2: Abiy indicated that the $8 billion total investment will be the single largest FDI into Ethiopia to date. This means about $800 million a year. This is a total lie as usual. In the years before Abiy came to power, Ethiopia has been receiving about $4 billion in FDI annually which is 5 times the $800 million planned investment.
Conclusion: Abiy agreed to sell the price at $850 million which is unbelievably cheap in the history of telecom sale. It should be noted that the $8 billion is simply planned investment and not actual. This is a highly inflated plan which is unlikely from experience that a single company invests $8 billion in a period of 10 years.
