Egyptian forces upon their arrival at Khartoum Air Base - Friday, May 21, 2021
KHARTOUM May 21, 2021 - Columns of Egyptian land forces, on land and at sea, arrived in Sudan to participate in joint maneuvers that will last for a week, the third of its kind this year.
According to a circular issued by the military media in Sudan, on Friday, preparations have been completed for the launch of the joint Sudanese-Egyptian training project "Protectors of the Nile" in Sudan from 26-31 May.
The circular affirmed that the joint training will involve members of all specializations and classes in the Sudanese and Egyptian armies.
The Egyptian forces participating in the project arrived at Khartoum Air Base, along with columns of ground forces and vehicles that arrived by sea.
The military media reported that the "Nile Protectors" maneuver came as an extension of the joint training cooperation between the two countries, and was preceded by the "Nile Eagles 1 and 2".
He continued, "All these maneuvers aim at exchanging military expertise, strengthening cooperation and unifying working methods to address the expected threats to the two countries."
In late March, the Sudanese and Egyptian armies held military maneuvers in Meroe, northern Sudan, to administer air operations, with the participation of elements of the Thunderbolt forces in the two countries, after a few months of similar maneuvers.
The joint military exercises between Sudan and Egypt come in light of the escalation of tension over the mobilization and management of the Renaissance Dam, as the date of the rains approaches, during which Ethiopia says it will start the second filling by 13.5 billion cubic meters.
