I listened to Shaleka Dawit's interview with Ethio 360 earnestly. The issue I want to raise in here isn't about Ethiopian internal politics which is ravaging the country as we speak, but rather the part towards the end that he talked about Eritrea vis-a-vis Ethiopian politics.
Shaleka Dawit, as expected, has deeper knowledge of Eritrean political, cultural and social dynamics than most Ethio elites. He has clearly underlined the fact that ethinic politics is foreign to Eritreans. The dead TPLF group had tried for so many years to infect Eritrea with the same diease to no avail. This disease is an existential threat to nations in Africa and elsewhere which he seems to be so frustrated about.
Regarding Eritrean sovereignty, he dismissed any
federation or confederation possibilities in the future as it is a no-go area for Eritreans. He is by far the most realistic Ethiopian intellectual I have come across so far. Even during the Dergue era he was the only official who suggested a peaceful resolution to the conflict prior to 1991. Hats off Shaleka Dawit. I have ultmost respect to you and your likes and I wish one day you will see Ethiopia ethinic politics free.
