For reasons I don't quite understand, some commenters have responded to my call for Eritrean forces to withdraw from Tigray by calling attention to systemic racism in the United States and the too frequent use by police of excessive force against people of color. I don't see how the two issues are related, but I appreciate the concern. Our work as Americans to form a "more perfect union" continues. There is much work that remains to be done. But we have made important progress. We don't deny our shortcomings. Yesterday's guilty verdict for the police officer who murdered George Floyd was important. More work needs to be done. And Eritrean forces need to be withdrawn from deep in Tigray, where they are making a horrible humanitarian situation even worse.
