Every year Ethiopia has to build 20- 30 irrigation dams/canals/ on tributaries of Abay River: Agriculture & Food Security is superior to hydroelectric power. This initiative is more secure and safe. Along side the summer afforestation program, the Ethiopian government should have developed project plan in identifying areas of developing such canals where Abay river can be harnessed to irrigate arable lands to the central part of the country. Although hydroelectric power is essential to the country, the future is more toward solar energy and other clean renewable alternatives. More dams in the Amhara and central Ethiopia means a sustainable food security and a highway to industrialization. Ethiopia has every means to use her God given water.
