Humility Over Hubris: Fight for Justice but Do Not Lose Your Sanity Over It

This world gives much but takes ten times as much for those who have been burdened with the ability to care and choose empathy in an age of pervasive indifference. I write this open letter to the givers, those who see injustice and sacrifice endlessly to do something about it. Whereas those who are celebrated are callously detached from the suffering of billions around the globe and many more pile on to the injuries of the world in order to profit personally, there are a sliver among us who bear the scars of others and hurt deeply in the process.
I write this from both a place of faith and as a matter of fact; you must love yourself as much as you care about others. Sadly, too many omit self-love and focus all their energies on being there for families, friends and strangers alike. The end result is heartbreaking; those who are the most compassionate wind up lonely, depressed and losing their sanity. I’ve witnessed many a people like this; my two year encounter with homelessness introduced me to an invisible society where once thriving individuals were reduced to beggars and deranged conspiracy peddlers...continued...
