Rape in Tigray is Not A New Agenda !

We heard that a group recently traveled to Mekelle to investigate alleged rape in the Tigray region. Of course, the number of violence against women in the region is increasing year by year.
Two years ago, the perpetrator was arrested during a public protest following the rape of 50 women by a security guard in Adi Daro Woreda of the same region. Release of 6,000 Birr bail provokes public outrage . There was a protest rally named “Yihono” in Mekelle, condemning the incident, by volunteers who called for an end to the violence.

According to a report released by the Central Statistics Authority three years ago, 12 percent of women in the Tigray region are sexually assaulted on a daily basis.
In addition, the 2016 Population and Health Survey reported that Tigray ranked second in terms of gender-based violence at the national level. As a result, the number of attacks has increased year after year. This is one of the reasons why the number of attackers is so high that the perpetrators have the heart to hide from the law.
In conclusion, despite the fact that rape is more brutal and uneducated, it is important to emphasize that the ongoing violence in Tigray has been going on for years and is not a new phenomenon, as TPLF Junta’s supporters claim.
