The coming Ethiopian election will settle the question of whether unitary state concept be part of the future Ethiopian political dialogue. The current Ethnic federalism is embraced by all Ethiopian ethnic groups who enjoyed the greatest autonomy for the last 27 years or so. We understand ethnic federalism was created by the TPLF for purpose of divide and rule. They introduced ethnic federalism based on the long history of unhealthy relation beteeen ethnic groups who were subjugated by Amara ruling class and Orthodox church. Under the feudal and the church cultures and traditional religions and languages were crushed and the Amara culture and religion were imposed. Millions died and uprooted from their lands under these ruthless rulers. When TPLF created the ethnic regions and recognized them as a building block of the new nation every one welcomed it with all its short comings. For the last 27 years Ethiopians were at peace with one another. Yet the TPLF using this new order looted the nation. These led to another revolution/reformation. The people wanted more autonomy and self rule. They stood with the constitution as is and demanded its complete implementation.
These desire of the peoples of Ethiopia is not without its opponents. The old idea of unitary state is still alive with individuals born of mixed ethnic groups and elites of the feudal remnants. These are the most educated and with resources. Using their position and know how they try to derail the whole change and take back the nation to the old order. They hide under liberal politics and demand ethnic regions erased and replaced by some other names. According to them developing ethnic group languages and cultures is bad for the country as it strengthen ethnic consciousness. They think the more one knows more of his culture and languages the more he reject Ethiopianism. They say this regardless of Ethiopia was living under this ethnic federalism for almost 3 decades .Ethiopia was much stronger in the past 27 years than it was in all of its history. Because the experiment was harmless to unity of Ethiopia it is better if we take it further and make the Federation perfect under ethnic federal concept . That means every right an ethnic group should have must be given without limit and reservations. Strong ethnic groups produce strong country not divided country.
This coming election is between two obvious ideologies. Should Ethiopia go back to the old rotten system of unitary state or continue on the new path of Ethnic federation. The choice is clear. No going back.

You must be an idi0t. You are totally wrong. How did you divide the country along Ethnic borders? Oromos and Tigrayans looted historical lands of Amhara, Somalia region and Afar because this constitution was drafted by TPLF and OLF ignoring all others as useless.
