Ethiopia’s troubled Western region




Pawe district in Benishangul-Gumuz used to be a special zone within the region. Due to the fertile land, Amharas were resettled here during the famine of 1985, before the current Ethiopian regions were established.

And now tens of thousands of civilians have been displaced in Ethiopia’s western Benishangul Gumuz region, aid agencies report. The reports also indicate a series of massacres in the past few months.

Gumuz didn't exist till weyanne reptiles came to the scene. It used to be called Metekle.and 80% are Amharas.The question should be how 80% Amharas ended up in Gumuz. Reptiles have an answer for that.

It doesn't matter what it used to be called, the first people to live in Benishangul-Gumuz were the Gumuz and Berta people, so the land rightfully belongs to them, Amhara are 1985 settlers, period.
