Germany is one of the major powers in EU and as such its influence beyond the national boundary of its state is undisputed.
Chancellor Angela Merkel was said to be one of the world-open politicians in a country that is still rooted in conservatism and old traditions, partly nearing archo-nationalism.
Governor Armin Laschet is said to be from the lower strata of the society, a son of a collier in a region still known for its coal mining districts, who is also said to have a good reputation with citizens with immigration background and who has defeated his contender, Fredrich Merz, who is from the recht-side of the political spectrum, or sort of the old guards.
Perhaps, Germany setting signal that it will continue on the course set by Mrs. Merkels leadership.
Armin Laschet elected new leader of Germany's CDU party
