While the rest of the world was gearing up for Christmas celebrations, a gruesome attack unfolded in Ethiopia that witnessed the extermination of more than 100 people. The incident took place in Western Benishangul-Gumuz region of Ethiopia on Wednesday, noted the Human Rights Commission, as residents described fleeing the horrors of the most recent ethnically inspired rampage at the hands of tribal butchers.

"Cui bono is a Latin phrase which means “who benefits?”, and which is used to suggest that there is a high probability that those responsible for a certain event are the ones who stand to gain from it."

For example, had the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) was constructed in the Afar region, as opposed to the Benishangul-Gumuz region of Ethiopia, the massacres would have been taking place in the Afar region.

At a time when the junta's Diaspora dwelling cadres and supporters are openly advocating for the destruction of the dam and expressing their support for arch-enemy Egypt, it's easy to see who is carrying out the massacres at the Benishangul-Gumuz region and who benefits from it: Cui Bono.

Pointing fingers at PM Abiy is not only a futile attempt to absolve the perpetrators of their genocidal crimes, but is borderline, if not over the line, of treason.
