It did not surprise me in the least bit, the minute I decided to stop giving Abiy full-throated support and instead chastised him for his recent decision of keeping the internet shuttered throughout most of Tigray, I knew there would be a blowback from the same people who were singing my praises up to that point. This is something as habesha as shisha, notice I did not say Ethiopian, somewhere along the line, we lost our way and decided that anything less than 100% compliance must be treated as ISIS.

After a long hiatus from writing—an absence caused by personal loss that hit me like a ton of bricks—I happened to start writing again around two weeks before TPLF decided to initiate a rampage of terror. When hostilities broke out on November 3rd, I initially resisted pointing fingers and instead urged patience before rushing to judgement. All that changed when a TPLF spokesperson admitted that they initiated the conflict by attacking the ENDF Northern Command without provocation. From that moment on, I spent weeks pushing against media narratives, going on various American radio shows highlighting the evils of TPLF and shaming people like Gerry Simpson and Susan Rice for their duplicity. I think you are wrongly diagnosing the backlash to the article you published last week.

It was not about Abiy. It was about the implication of your advocacy in favour of opening up the Internet which you argued that it is a necessity in this day and age. A number of Ethiopians including myself understand how internet is a daily necessity. However, given how the Internet especially social media has become a latent force, and a tool for creating or aggravating instabilities and conflicts, we are not comfortable with the opening up before the law enforcement operation in Tigray reached a level where the the TPLF evil forces are completely subdued and stability is achieved, which may be marked by the capture or eliminating the warmongering leadership of the TPLF. That was why some of us were taken aback by your article and question your motive.

Your present article is once again misguided. You are trying to paint us as worshippers of Abiy and try to justify your hypothesis through historical anecdotes and proverbs. You are wrong!

So gagi,

if it takes weeks, months, or even years for the TPLF to be brought to account, or to be subdued, how long do you advocate that the internet be shut down in Tigray? Also, be honest here, if this was taking place in Gondar, Harar or Sidamo, or whichever location in Ethiopia that is near and dear to your heart, would you be saying the same thing right now?

I have a similar view of as gagi. Tigri is like a crime scene right now and as everywhere it is imperative to block everything when an active crime is committed by the Tigree junta and active investigation and apprehension of the culprits are underway.

In us where I assumed you live if there is a yellow police tape is around and a road is blocked do ask oh my right is violated why do you block the road? I don't think so. So what makes you think this needs to be judge by different standards. You guys never mentioned a corridor for humanitarian aid for the people. You never asked to raise money and help the peoples who are displaced rather you asked about the internet. The internet service is bombed by the TPLF junta and the government will repair and establish the service whenever they can and found it fit.

The main question should be who is the main user of the internet among the Tigre people in percentage 5% or 10% so why is it so a burning issue for certain peoples? is it because it put the digital woyanes in disarray? I am just guessing here. So let's hide behind the Tigre people. If it is so important the Tigree people can flush out the hiding junta and their cronies and expedite the restoration of services.

I ironically, the decision also lies in the hands of genuine Tigre people at the moment.
