The region's capital is Assosa. Following the adoption of the 1995 constitution, the Region was created from the westernmost portion of the Gojjam province (the part north of the Abay River), and the northwestern portion of the Welega Province (the part south of the Abay).The name of the region comes from two local ethnic groups – Berta (also called as Benishangul) and Gumuz.
Before "ethnic federation" came along, Benishangul was part of Welega and Gojjam; The two people have close relationship; a Gojame went to school in Lekemt and vise versa; I know folks from there.
Tigrayans own most (90%_ commercial lands? It's fine with me as long as they didn't do it like Wolkait; if they're there as investors, probably former army and willing to take risk; it's Good for them! If I was offered free land, no thanks!
If there is nothing illegal in the acquiring of the land, why these guys are talking about it in the video. Off course what ever TPLF cadres touched is suspect? They've made it hard for Tigrayans.
I know the big guy Shemeles says offensive things every now and then but, the fact is, Afan Oromo is spoken there when it was part of Welega & there is nothing wrong in the language growing today. It just shouldn't be at the expense of Amharic that crosses 80 plus ethnic lines, they can both grow side by side.
