Why is East Africa the most unstable, fluid and ever undefined and poorest part of Africa?

Is there a unique and unnatural political tectonic force just like the rift valley, is it because a different trait of Islam ideology endemically infested East Africa, or is it because the western and middle eastern chose this part as their regular soccer and try out field, or is it because the population inhabited this region are biologically disadvantaged, etc? I am saying this, because four of the failed states of the world are found in East Africa.
