He was one of the sons of the famous gelawdios family, the co-founders of the ELF. They were members of the hareka aka maHber shewate movement in 1958.

When hareka or maHber shewate was abolished they launched the ELF along with other eris in 1961. One of the co-founders was their son idris gelawdios.

Just for your information, the gelawdios families were well known in eritrea, one of their sons was a lecturer in addis university during the sillassie period and economically, Ali gidir agricultural sector along with the italian danaday was under their control.

To add, one of them (idris gelawdios as I annotated above) was a member of the constitution (Quam team) (lol) along with dr. Bereket and others in the 90s of last century.

Originally, the gelawdios families belong to the BEIT-JUK clan (a tigrayit speaking clan of the tigre ethnic group).Their village is still called BEIT-JUK and it is located only 12 KM away from KEREN and not far from midri mensaE.
