Aug 5 in the History of Eritrea.

On Aug 5, 1949, the U.S gov policy on the “Disposition of the Former Italian ColoniesNSC 19/5 was approved. The Policy stated:
Under the circumstances, the DoS decided to give strong support to the proposal for the Federation of Eritrea with Ethiopia.
The Policy further states;
It was felt that this was in line with our basic policy and our security interests in Eritrea, and that it stood the best chance of meeting the views of the various interested parties and of obtaining the approval of two-thirds of the members of the UN.
The principal strategic interest of the United States in Eritrea is in having the right to use certain military facilities in that territory. As stated in NSC 19/3, U.S strategic requirements call for the operational availability of the following bases as essential:..
Asmara, as a telecommunications base facility;

and
In the event of an emergency, Massawa, as an air & naval base facility.
In view of the decision taken by the UN on Eritrea, it will be necessary for this Government to negotiate with Ethiopia for the desired rights.
On March 11, 1951, then U.S Vice President Richard Nixon arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and requested of Haile Selassie to build a U.S communication military center outside Asmara and port facilities in Massawa.

The Base Rights Agreement for Kagnew Military Station in Asmara was signed on May 22, 1953 & in 1953 negotiations began to acquire the CINTIA area of Asmara; which would eventually become Tract E. The formal lease for the CINTIA site was signed on February 21, 1955.

Eritrea: A Chat with Tsedal Yohanne

AI STAFF 29 JULY 2020

“Serving an indefinite sentence in prison is dreadful … it affects the whole family”, she ponders aloud.  She is right.  Being deprived for years of family, children and friends is no life.  Especially, for prisoners like Aster who never had a day in court and whose ‘wrongdoing’ is not publicly proclaimed is a travesty of justice. ..

Hey mereja clown, we get involved as Eritreans though. Not as Eritreans, pretending to be Ethiopians. He's an Ethiopian, pretending to be an Eritrean. You see the difference? And when he was caught openly admitting of his ethiopiawnet, he still denies it to our face.

At least you, eventhough a f-d up person like every weyanay- ugume, is honest enough to admit you're a tgraway.
