Which part is the lie?
The part where he compares TPLF to a mafia family with don Sebhat Nega as the capo di capi, and numerous bosses and underbosses.
Or the part where he says you got to dry its revenues to kill the outfit, just like the US did to the Al Capone and the Genovese family outfits.

I used to think of him as such but not any more for two core reasons.

First, he has violated some key principles of democracy and politics. He has stated that he is the inventor of 'Oromara'. What is the essence of Oromara? The oromara idea simply says that if only Oromos and Amaras agree on what Ethiopia should be and Ethiopians are governed, all will be orderly and just. In other words, the rest of the 86 ethnic groups of Ethiopia and the millions of non-oromo, non-amara Ethiopians count for nothing according to Seyoum Teshome. So he fails so tragically not only as a public intellectual but also as a democratic minded intellectual.

Second, he lacks an independent political mind and integrity. According to the theory of the dictator, there are three forces (class of people) that sustain a dictator in power. They are (1) Key supporter such PP and military bosses and security elements,(2) influentials (ተጽኖ ፈጣሪዎች) and (3) electors such PP rank and file and people who vote for the dictator . Seyoum Teshome is the classic Influence maker (ተጽኖ ፈጣሪ). The role of the influncer is to motivate and influence the electors and the voter, ie the public. This is why Seyoum Teshome is a paid program producer on ETV, regularly gets state secrets and he is an insider with Abiy's regime. Seyoum may look like an analyst, but he is actually a propagandist. He no more evaluates Abiy Ahmed on the bases of principles and actual practice, he has become a true believer of Abiy irrespective of Abiy's political behavior; and that is not being a political thinker or authentic intellectual.

It is true that he digests a massive amount of political information and is able to connect the dots. He is also very hard working and productive. I suspect, this is why Abiy chose to pull him toward the Regime rather than push him away even when Seyoum says things that are critical of the regime.
