The tribalism infested and the bystander in the face of multiple ethnic cleansing campaigns, Ethiopian security establishment is now under intense scrutiny by the United Nations. Today's statement is the harbinger of the end to identity politics in the country. For the past three decades, ethnic politics has caused enormous sufferings and the loss of lives of innocent Ethiopians and resulted in the destruction of billions of dollars worth of properties. The report alleges that Ethiopian security establishment lacks professionalism and has become a danger to the people it was supposed to protect because of the way it is structured. It is also stressed in the report that it is about time for Ethiopia to consider meaningful reform in its security establishments to earn the trust its citizens has on their government.

We all should expose the atrocities that are being committed against innocent Ethiopians because of who they are and the continuous lack of commitment by the security establishment to uphold the rule of law. It is the inherent weakness of structuring the security apparatus on ethnic basis that is becoming the biggest problem in preventing the habitual ethnic cleansing occurring in the country. Unless the security establishment is totally clear of partisan mentality, loyalty to their service will always be questioned.
Why would Mekelakeya always have to be the ones to be sent to avert looming genocides after the facts when in fact Regional governments have huge number of security personnel that are paid by tax payers?

"In many areas of Oromia region, the federal and regional government were not willing to deploy security forces in time to protect minorities. In one case in Dera town, a father was murdered in front of his son, who himself sustained serious injury in the attack. Moments before his father’s death, his son called law enforcement personnel for support, but they responded by saying they were not authorised to intervene. Instead, reports indicate that when victims tried to defend themselves,
Oromia region Special Forces attacked them." Says MRG.
The genocide is now being internationally reported and the Ethiopian Government will be hold accountable for failing to protect innocent citizens from mob attacks. The security establishment rather is now implicated for its complicity in the crimes against Ethiopians considered as "others" by the mob.

Za-Ilmaknun, in oromia region must of the genocides on non-Oromos were carried out in collaboration with Oromia region security forces and regional officials.
If Abiy Ahmed wants to have the support of all Ethiopians, he has to investigate all the crimes committed in Oromia region and make a public statement. Otherwise he will be accountable for all those crimes

Wedi,
I agree with you. We all should take this very seriously and pressure the government to make major reform in re-structuring the security establishment. Regional forces are very partisan and often times demonstrated a tendency to stand with the attackers. The genocide could as well be labeled as government enabled absent such reforms. It was reported that the Oromia police did a house search just a day before the attack to make sure that people have no means to defend themselves. It is a well coordinated attack by the Regional security forces and Regional Administration.
The attackers were shuttled in from surrounding rural areas by multiple trucks. It would be stupid to think that Oromia police wasn't aware of such activities. If we let this pass, then what is coming is going to be catastrophes of biblical proportions.
