Every generation has to pay its share sacrifices to keep our country free and intact. Yes, most of the, Derg, party members were uneducated of democracy however, they were more advanced than the later agames. Saying that we have to look in that time frame. Among those groups, some are armed and had different agendas. Meson for instance lead by Haile Fida brought the Oromo separation agenda and started to kill opposing party members. During that time Mengistu who was the member of sudded and many of its members from the military take advantage of their experience and organization to take the upper hand. Their first agenda was Ethiopian unity. After that, anyone who raised a separatist idea became the enemy of Derg. Aman amdom he is known for his arrogance tried to undermine the junior officers like Mengistu and brought the Eritrean separation agenda then he got eliminated. Teferi banti raises the Oromo separation and got eliminated. Atinafu abate , alemayehu haile involved with EPRP Edu and TPLF and EPLF and the Somali war and also they are called the fifth liners officially became enemy the derge.

my support for Mengistu is that under all these challenges and war he still managed to steer the country to prosperity while dismantling the monarch and the feudal system. On top of that, the Americans imperialism as he called them posed the ultimate opposition so that they pushed him to declare socialism and get help from the USSR

I simply called that generous. despite all the internal and external opposition he managed to realize the land reform, literacy campaign, modernization of the country, for that matter most of the current industrial projects that agame tried to take credit for were planned and started during Mengistu. Thousands of engineers, doctors, surveyors, military personnel from poor families got a chance and sent to socialist countries with free scholarships. Free education, even after education a graduate shouldn't worry about getting a job because the job is waiting for him/her.
as the book says give caesar whatever it is his. Yes, many peoples especially young peoples lost their life. could it be done better yes but we should also see what was the alternatives? I heard about red terror a lot but who instigate it first the EPRP and EPLF they declare war in the city called white terror. they underestimate the power of the military and started to shoot elected kebele chairmen and some cadres. Then the decisive Mengistu declares red terror under the slogan " one commerade blood will be replaced by ten anarchist blood". And given the lower party members full power to arrest and kill. That was a mistake but again what was the alternative for the Derg during the revolution. Still, his immediate action shows the leadership quality and love for his country. (which is a rear quality in the current one)
mistakes are made grave one but Mengistu keeps the country intact and lays the foundation for development that needs to recognize that is my point.

Unproven accusations have been the preferred method of dictators to annihilate opponents. Mengistu never tried to prove his accusation against Haile Fida, Aman Andom or Atinafu Abate in front of the Ethiopian people. He slaughtered them like sheep.

Every Ethiopian involved in anti Ethiopia or anti Monarchy is enemy beleieve me. No country have ever been at peace after killing Kings and educated. Take a look at Cambodia, it was acting exactly like Ethiopia with many factions supported by foreigners, it ended up killing millions of its educated people that was leading Cambodia to prosper. Today, once again, Cambodia is foreign Tourism hub where their people are being used as prostitutes to survive children kidnapped for sex in Arab and other rich country. Of course there might be inequality back then, but what do you call the inequality of Tplf. Is it because it was creating eprdf pretending other ethnics are also in power because of corruption these eprdf were rich so in fact it was worse. it also opened the door for more extremists to take this advantage that are acting now like Abdelazziz in this forum, he has his own agenda. Yet, we still want to know the real story not by those with the same agneda now hiding within. In fact so far the truth teller is G/Medhin Araya who goes on Esat mentioning his involvement and what has happened under tplf. There is nothing good about Derg: was anti Orthodox, anti youth, anti business, anti monarchy. He in fact made it worse with separatists, look, he didn't accomplish anything except fake slogan Ethiopia bla bla, that is what I hop Aby doesn't become that and show nothing better on the ground. Just because people are in Derg, they not necessarily have to support it but when bad parties control the country, you are forced to participate for the sake of the country. Nothing good about Eprp, nothing good about Haile Fida, etc, it is not true that Teferi Banti/Atnafu Abate had another agenda, it is about power struggle between Mengistu. Aman Andom agenda still needs to be revealed, as he was the head of Derg at the time when H/Selassie and 60 generals were killed.
